Today, some dear friends are celebrating Renee's very, very close to final adoption of Lion. It's exciting and touching and brings back so many memories for me to watch Renee and her family prepare to travel overseas and bring home their new son and brother. It's taken me all day (and thank all that is holy that I'm on the west coast and my "day" extends a little bit longer than much of the country's "day") to sit down for ten seconds and type these trite but heartfelt words:
Congratulations, Renee. Safe travels. I am SO incredibly excited for you.

Renee's happy news ties in with another big thing swirling around in my head. If adoption is a part of your life, or interests you, there is a site you should know. Grown in My Heart. The effort made there to look at adoption from many different perspectives is impressive, informative and meaningful.
Then. Last thing, I swear. If the intersection of adoption and other ways to build a family and blogging interests you and you are a member of the BlogHer network, go over to the Room Of Your Own proposals for BlogHer 2010 and vote for this panel put together by the Grown in My Heart team: Adoption, Infertility and Loss: How Much Do You Share Online? And not just because that's me and you love me. Ahem. In my opinion, the more we discuss the tough issues publicly, the less fearful they become.

Nate. Six months. I bring you the cutest damn baby in the universe. No bias. This photograph belongs to the amazing Nick Follger who can perform the seldom attempted feat of making me look good in a picture. He's superhuman.

This was waiting for me at my chair at our table on Valentine's Day morning.

Can you see what he wrote? "How's that for timing?" This substitutes for a love note in the anyhousehold. Need I say that Matt did not get his Valentine's Day wish? I think some men just ask for sex. That was more likely than an untrained baby lion/horse/dog.

Love Renee. Love you.
Oh my gosh, that picture. The cuteness!!
And that Matt is so romantic. A mastiff scare the every-living s%#^ out of my son the other day at the park. His head was as big as all three of my kids combined. No lie. Will Matt be picking up the gigantic poops?? Will you be pulling a leash along with the triple-wide.
I almost want to you get one of those puppies just for the blog fodder.
Ok... you could not be any more adorable if you tried! Love this photo of you and the Natester... SO, so beautiful!
And oh yeah, like you need a dog to add to the chaos? Coming from someone who has 3 kids and a dog... either get yourself a cute little yip yip, or an extremely family friendly mutt like a Lab or Golden Retriever.
Or better yet - stop bringing things into your house that POOP! Seriously? These fur balls are all sweet and cute, until you have to clean up the piles of dog crap left all over your yard - or someone elses! :)
Nate is adorable (and so are you)! And your husband is just like a kid about the doggie thing. Totally cracks me up!
Well that picture is just BEAUTIFUL!
So exciting for Renee!
Going to vote for you now.
And I don't see why you won't let Matt be happy. It says that the puppy is great with kids. Which I assume means that he is practically a canine Mary Poppins!
One of my friends has a Great Pyrenees. Think great tumbleweeds of fur being consumed by your soon-to-be-crawling Nate. Sorry Matt; aim lower. May I suggest Mini Schnauzer? Hair not fur = no shedding.
PS - You have many, many balls in the air. How 'bout you give up self-flagellation for Lent? Maybe I will, too.
The picture is wonderful.
My aunt and uncle had a great pyrenees, and Sam was the sweetest dog ever. He didn't mind being crawled on by kids. But he was SO big. He took up half of any room he was in.
Beautiful baby, beautiful mama! And yes, great timing for the puppies. Parents on sight? Do you HAVE TO look at them or just the puppies? :-)
Yaye Renee, can't wait to see Lion! OMG, how cute and perfect is that picture of you and Nate. I LOVE it and he's getting so BIG!!!
I'm with Kirsten, I want you to get the dog, so you can blog about it a LOT! :)
Awesome picture...AND I went and voted for the BlogHer thing. Also, thanks for the website link!
I think you should have *surprised* him with one of the much smaller (cuter) Yorkie pups... I mean, he did circle that ad too. :-)
Tell me you're blowing that picture up to ginormous proportions and hanging it on your wall. It's amazing!
Good luck with your balls.
Wait. That didn't come out the way I intended. Aw heck, I'm sure you know what I mean.
I'll try again.
I hope you get your balls back in order soon.
Gah. Never mind. Have a nice day...I'm going to find some more caffeine.
PS...Photo is absolutely gorgeous. Is there anything more yummy than a 6 month old baby?
You don't have all that many balls up in the air? In what universe? I have one child and think I'm not balancing it all well, I can't imagine how you do what you do with four of 'em!
And both you and your sweet babe are gor-GEOUS.
What a wonderful photo! Nate is adorable and you are beautiful. I strongly urge you to resist the dog--especially that big of a dog. Big dog = big poop.
thanks for the adoption links. i am 37 and on the brink of trying to find my birth-father, so those were timed well for me! adoption issues are huge, and i applaud you for fearlessly continuing to talk about them.
thanks again!
What a fabulous pic!
Off to vote!
Thank you honey. That is sweet.
Since I'm still waiting for Lion you don't mind if I eat Nate up do you? He is so sweet.
And mastiff isn't exactly a romantic gift unless you are another mastiff.
That really is the cutest baby ever...
He's like a mini-Gee. Serious. Is he a clone?
I only wish my hubby would ask for a horse dog...
The photo rocks! Baby Nate is the cutest.
That is the most adorable picture ever.
And that's, like, six or seven Valentine's worth of present. Yeesh.
http://www.naute.com/funimages/falcor.jpg in your face BEFORE the sun comes on...how's THAT for timing?
D: What the fuck is that thing? I'm scarred.
(But, that's hilarious. XO.)
(D is my sister. Otherwise, the sender of that image might be barred.)
Beautiful photo, beautiful people!
Maybe in your hubs' mind, dogs = romance? Hmm.
Yes, Baby Nate is one of the cutest babies I've ever seen. (: And you are so lovely in that photo, even lovelier in real life. My brother & his wife had 2 mastiffs. You have to have lots of good insurance, because other people will be afraid of the dog and assume they are attacking, when in fact they are licking or even just throwing angry glances.
Ok, my dear. I registered, I voted. (:
So Matt still needs that dog? Maybe you can offer another kid. Then you could build your own parking lot for the teenage years.
The hand on the chin...forever yum.
He really should just give up and ask for the sex before you ban that from the house, too.
You are freaking adorable. Oh, and the baby, too.
Beautiful baby. Beautiful Mama!
Please let Matt have his indoor horse. Please.
the indoor horse too funny. I had a 185 pound great dane rottweiler and my mom has a great dane/ boxer. I do love the big dogs but they dont' live long enough so maybe for you thats a good selling point. I pyrenese is goign to need alot of grooming so that wouldn't be a selling point for me other then the fact that you can leave them out in the winter more then a short haired big dog.
Beautiful picture of you and Nate!
Your new picture is beautiful! Hold strong on your doggy stance. So much work! And your babies are so little still. You deserve at least a year in between potty training and paper training.
So adorable!
Yeah multiple kids and giant dogs don't mix unless you also have major assistance managing the juggling of said balls.
I have 2! Pyrs- Love them to pieces and wouldn't trade them for anything except when they need grooming, slobber my couch, or whatever else or eat whatever it is that causes that Awful smell!
But they are fierociously protective of my 3 rambunctious kiddos and let them do just about anything they think of including riding them around the yard.
Your husband is obsessed with big dogs. Doesn't he know that they drool? It is completely gross.
I saw your tweets earlier today. Are you getting the puppies? Are you? ;)
I LOVE the picture of you and Nate! You both look wonderful, and so in love :))
I have to say that I wish there was a place where I could have talked with more ppl about infertility. It was a tough tough road.
I think it is amazing of u and ppl like u to adopt. i'm not sure I could have done it. You are all incredible.
that photo is amazing and I can't believe how big Nate is.
I'm sure a mastiff puppy will help you keep all those balls in the air. :)
i laughed out loud when i zoomed in on matt's newspaper clipping!
Gorgeous picture of you both--beautiful isn't strong enough of a word to describe that baby!
