There's this photographer in town, I think I've mentioned him several time already. Nick Follger is his name and he needs to be stopped. He's preying on vulnerable mommies like me.
He had me hooked from the first session, maternity shots with Ess and Gee.
Pardon the glimpse of my pale, blimp-like belly. Hopefully, your eyes aren't damaged for life. Focus on the children. The color is wonky. My walls are not orange and the actual photographs are gorgeous soft black and white. I have a big, fancy digital camera that I don't know how to use very well. Instead of learning, I bitch about how I'm not very good at using my camera and pay Nick the freaking genius Follger to take exquisite pictures of my children.
That photo session sucked donkeys. The kids were miserable. I was sweating the entire time. I had specifically requested the Ann Geddes like shot in the middle and I pouted all the way home because they absolutely refused to sit next to each other. They sat like that for less than a nanosecond, I swear to you, and Nick the Genius got the shot with his legendary trigger finger. At the picture viewing, I became a Nick convert.
Then, after Cue's birth, we signed up for the infant package.
That's my wittle bitty, eensy weensy, quinner quinn quinn. Yes, it is. I can't even write coherently. I'm reduced to a babbling pile of mommy ridiculousness.
And, six months later, this.
Last month, we to see Nick for the one-year session. Because he is a saint, he agreed to try and get some photos of our entire family. I also wanted to attempt a shot of the three kids. Even the incredible, saintly Nick was skeptical of that one. "It's the hardest shot to get," he warned me in his adorable, European accent, "three children alone in the picture. Especially, such young children. It will be difficult."
The hour in his studio was one of the more hellish hours I've ever spent with my children. I believe I tweeted afterwards that I was ready to do something fun, like have a cavity filled without Novocaine or contract severe food poisoning. I had a pounding headache for days. When I went to view the pictures, I honestly thought, looking on the bright side, at least I won't be tempted to spend a lot of money.
I saw this. Could you resist? You probably could, because they aren't your kids, but imagine those were your kids all posed and adorable and actually clean with their little itty bitty toes sticking out from under the book like that. You couldn't resist.
(I deleted this picture because the guilt was killing me.)
I even liked this, which is a miracle because Matt and I are camera-repelling individually. Together, our unphotogenicness knows no bounds.
(See above, and also, I really do fear not being allowed back to the studio)
I am powerless to resist. I ordered a wall portrait of the three kids. A freaking wall portrait. I've been making fun of wall portraits for years. It's ridiculous, I mocked. Wall portraits should be reserved for Supreme Court Justices and maybe college presidents. Who needs nearly life-sized pictures of their children? Um, apparently, I do.
I'm not leaving these posted for long. I think I'm breaking like eighteen copyright laws and if Nick banned me from his studio the withdrawal would kill me. My motives for posting them at all are purely, fantastically selfish. I want you all to tell me how unbelievably adorable my children are. You totally don't have to tell me, I'll just pout, and possibly ban you.

Shut up. Am I first? I'm posting this just so I can be FIRST.
Yay! I WAS first. Now I'll slather tons of compliments on those adorable kids of yours. Do you know how bad we suck? We've never EVER had a professional family photo session, not even the el cheapo, not good-o packages snapped at Wal-mart. Those pictures are SO CUTE! Mommy crack for sure. I'm addicted, and those aren't even my kids!
BTW - thanks for asking about all of the meds involved in cycling for surrogacy. It's a good topic for me to cover on my blog, and I'm definitely going to write it all up for you within the week! :)
So, so adorable! And who are those fashion models posing with them?!
Sarah's been taking Tyler in once a month for photos. I keep asking why it's necessary, since I take about 100 pictures of him every single day. Sarah says that I "just don't understand."
so cute! I can see why you're hooked. The man is a genius, a true artist and a whiz with kids!
Completely freaking adorable. Utterly and completely, and the family one is just beautiful.
Kym - Numero Uno! You should really, really go and get some done. It's miserable hard work to get a good picture, but it's so wonderful to have them. I'll look forward to that post.
Marinka - You just achieved BFF 4ever status with that one.
Joe - Yeah, sorry, she's right.
Daisy and Robin - You have now earned your lifetime memberships. (Your checks are in the mail.)
Those are so awesome. I am very jealous. We've never done that. Very, very cute.
I am a picture whore, TOO! We are so related.
Oh my goodness, how adorable! I can see how you got roped into the second mortgage to pay for them. :-) For real.
We've been meaning to get some photos of this pregnancy, but somehow I haven't gotten around to it.
I should make time. Soon.
WOW Those are great!
I am such a sucker for pictures of my kids. I have so many HUGE photos of them in frames that I don't know what to do with. The only "art" we have on any of our walls are massive photo collages of our children.
One of the biggest fights I ever had with my husband was about how much money I spent after a particularly successful photo session.
I know what you mean about the actual photo session. I had a photographer over the other day and when she left I wanted to dissolve into tears. I was dripping sweat and had a terrible headache. I even sent her an e-mail apologizing for my kids behavior.
I would have bought the wall portrait too. That photo is so DAMN ADORABLE. I want to kiss them. Love it.
You don't have to threaten to ban me. They are adorable (whew, I am so happy I can say that honestly). And you scrub up pretty well yourselves.
We have our own female Nick Follger who preys on the preschool at every conceivable opportunity. Christmas, Easter, Summer, Fall, Halloween, Thanksgiving and sometimes in between. Even when the shots are cheesy (involving, for example, a stack of pumpkins) she manages to capture perfectly the essence of my children.
We never ever ever buy professional photos, but each time they quietly put the proofs in the childrens' cubbys, and I quietly write her out a check.
Wow, your kids ARE freaking adorable. I love them and I love your photographer. The first time we had professional shots was this school year, the pictures came back at my son's school this week and I spent $130. I bought every single package they threw at me and then some. I'm such a sucker.
My God, you're hysterical! And your children are absolutely beautiful (and I REALLY mean that--I'm not saying it just so that I can avoid being banned. Seriously, they're some cute kids!).
Most importantly, I love your writing voice--you're a huge talent. And to show you my appreciation for all that you do, please go over to my site, MyBrownBaby, for something very very special!
Denene of MBB
I feel your pain there. I love getting pics taken of the kiddies. I just can't stop myself. For me it's like heroine though.
These are so beautiful! I hope some day to have the same kind of magic in my viewfinder!
They're totally adorable! What cute kidlets you have. Your photographer is fantastic, and if I lived anywhere near you instead of up in the arctic as I do, I would totally use him too.
all the pictures are adorable. i especially like the shots of ess and gee way back when. the stark differences between them are beautifully photographed and are sure to be treasured by all of you for years. and those toes! gotta be my favorite part on a kid.
Okay, they're adorable. I wanted to do the infant photoshoot but um, I just had a baby (both times!) and couldn't get my shit together. I love that red hair and Ess has the best smile.
I want to do the family portrait too. HRH should start losing baby teeth any second and I'd like to get a few before he starts to look awkward. RC can not see a camera without making a goofy face.
Oh good God...those are the most beautiful photographs of children (and the kids are beautiful too!) I want a Nick....can he reproduce from the past??
I LOVE them all! Thanks for sharing! You have a beautiful family!
Wow. I don't take many snapshots of my son and have never paid anyone to take any pictures either. It's a good thing I live nowhere near you (and this Nick character) because ... yikes ... there goes the budget (hahaha like I have a workable "budget" now).
Oh those are gorgeous. And I know EXACTLY what you mean about how expensive it is. We have an infant series almost identical (down to some of the same shots) of Little Miss that I LOVE. And we went back a year later because she wanted to use my wee ones as models, so we got a massive discount. And I still spent way more money than I intended. And we just got professional pictures done in a PARK last Monday. I'm afraid to see what those look like.
But back to your point. Your kids are GORGEOUS and I love the photos. I, too, would have been unable to resist, and you're right -- they're NOT EVEN MY KIDS :)
absolutely adorable - the whole family.
by the wall portraits I've got up, my dd must be destined to be a future judge. :)
You're children are absolutely beautiful and adorable, but I'm really "lusting" after Nick's services. OK - that sounds bad, but I would LOVE to have a photographer that good around here. The pics are absolutely amazing. You definitely cannot be judged for this addiction.
Those are wonderful! thanks for sharing. I can see how those toys popping out would completely make you grab your checkbook:)
Why doesn't Nick live on the East Coast? The photos are gorgeous and your kids are absolutely adorable. I completely understand why you were unable to resist the wall portrait. I haven't broken down yet but if I had a photographer like Nick I am sure that I would!
I meant TOES popping out from under the book:)
You have ALL earned life time memberships. Seriously, I'm grinning like the Cheshire Cat here. Thanks for heaping praise on my babies mad modeling skills.
MGT and Michelle - Nick's wife actually told me they sometimes have to make up fake invoices for a mom to take home to her husband, so he doesn't know how much she really spent!! That cracked me up. But, Matt honey, I would NEVER lie to you like that. Ahem.
Smiling - Toes makes a lot more sense ;-)
Gorgeous. I love those pictures.
I've always wanted to get Bunny's photo professionally done and after 2 1/2+ years I am still waiting. She is currently one of the most photographed children on the planet. But I want those beautiful black and white pictures that only a professional can capture.
You've just encouraged me to do it (my husband may want a word with you later).
Beautiful pictures! Lovely children! You have a gorgeous family!
Wow! Amazing! and the pics are great too. I can't decide if i want the family shot or the book one. It's not creepy that their not my kids if I'm realated to them right?
Once Elizabeth tried to get these pictures of Thai under this really pretty tree...probably the funniest walk ever.
OK in my posts i always f up Their, They're and There. But seriously. I know how to use them. no really. i mean THEY'RE all totally different and i know all of THEIR uses. really.
hiding now.
Those are beautiful portraits!! I love taking my kids in for pictures--but it's hard work! I'm usually exhasted after those photo shoots.
AHhhh I missed the one with the big kids. Or I think I did. Whichever ones you took down. Which I totally understand....but wahhhhh. :)
I want him to come and photograph mine. Like today.
I adore, absolutely adore the pictures of the kids and you, when you were pregnant. Gorgeous pictures.
Damn! Damn damn damn!! I'm too late to see the picture of them all together. I really hate it when that happens.
I guess I'll just have to go back and look at the pictures that ARE still there of your ridiculously adorable, scrumptious children. Damn.
And really? You need to be nicer to yourself. You look glowy and lovely in all your pictures.
Your children are absolutely beautiful!! :) And all of the pictures that made it into your post were incredible!! I would so be visiting that photographer all the time too!! :) Wonderful photos!
