Let Them Eat Cake

It's birthday season around here. I'm feeling behind. Perpetually behind. Also, a little despondent. Sometimes, it seems like the only way to stay one step ahead of the game is to stay up way too late or get up way to early, or both. I'm tired. Yes, I would like a little cheese with my whine, thank you very much. Actually, I'd like a little cake. With wine. (Notice, I dropped the 'h.')

Because cake makes us happy.

Really happy. (I don't want this cake, blech, baby slobber.)

There wasn't any of this cake left.

Don't worry, I got my share. I've killed for chocolate. (Not really, but I've contemplated it.) (No children were harmed in the making of this post or the eating of the cake. My ham-eating husband was maimed a little, maybe, but only because he bought the wrong cake mix. Devil's Food. DOUBLE BLECH! The right cake mix always has two chocolates in the title. Double chocolate fudge. Chocolate Supreme Fudge. Ooey Gooey Chocolate, Chocolate Fudge. Not Devil's Food. That doesn't even mention chocolate. Ham-eaters. Honestly.)

Peace out. I'm going to bed.

I just have to say, that's an awesome stroller, where'd you get it? And does it fit through regular doorways?

The DEVIL, that's who.

Your kids are too cute. And I'm so excited you decided to stick with "ham-eating husband!"

Now I'm off to make a cake.

They are adorable. just adorable.

oh my goodness, everything that came to mind about your kids and your post were in each comment already.

I love them all with their sunglasses on... that's cool. "They Rock".

^5 on the post and hope you have a super day! I love cake! Chocolate with white frosting and your right. Chocolate has to be in it twice.

Happy Birthday!! Loving the stroller pixs!

i love the stroller, too. i think the kids in their sunglasses are so stinkin' cute, too. dang it - i have no original thought. oh, and i wanted to say happy birthday, too. (dang it)

May I have a little wine, too? I could use a little whine also, now that I'm thinking about it. That stroller rocks. I would have loved to have that when my twinners were little and we had Kaelyn. We've officially outgrown the stroller phase, save for a lightweight umbrella stroller for Kaelyn that we use only every once in a blue moon. *sigh* Happy birthday to the little ones!

Actually - I am a fan of the Devils Food. I think that the other mixes just use fancy names for pretty much the same thing.

Devils food was at one time considered to be as chocolate as you can go. But you know Americans - always looking to make things bigger and better...Do you think those "bigger" names for chocolate cake originated in Texas?

Anyway - it's all good as far as I'm concerned - as long as I can make my own buttercream icing. Because that really *makes* the cake for me.

I have a lot of opinions about cake.

mmmm chocolate cake. It's Bubs birthday today, we may be making a cake too. Even if he's golfing and playing poker Bunny and I can enjoy it.

Just look at your beautiful children! That's all that matters. Who needs time? Organization? A tidy house? Sleep? We'll get some when we're 80.

I agree though, the right quantities of chocolate are important. Devils Food will not cut it.

Happy Birthdays!

Very sweet! I don't think there is a cake I turn down, but i'll keep in mind to avoid the devil.

Devil's Food is really only appropriate for the Groom's Cake at a wedding.

I ate ALL the cake because child #1 refused to eat it. He would rather have fruit. How is he my child?

Happy Birthday Kids!

Mmmm cake..see I want cake so much now, that I'd even take the baby slobber kind. :)

My neighbor purposely orders cakes larger than she needs just so she can be assured of left overs. She REALLY likes cake.

Maria - I adore that stroller. It's a Safetech ordered from Ebay - there are a couple of really reputable sellers. It's a foreign knock off of a stroller called the Mountain Buggy Urban Triple, which is beautiful, but costs more than my current used van!

AMomTwoBoys and Quart - A ham-eating devil, that's what he is.

Kym - Come on over, I always have wine...and whine.

Kate - I love a girl who has opinions about cake. But, you are wrong about the Devil's food, I have to say. It's inferior.

Connie - He just really loves his mama. Enough to save his cake for you. That's love.

Tracey - Not really. Cue is end of July. Ess is in Aug. Gee isn't until October. But, so far, we've made Ess and Gee's birthdays joint and just celebrated twice. Because presents for just one of them? Oh my holy horrific day. Eventually we'll go to individual birthdays. I'm thinking maybe this year they'll get the idea going to all their friends' parties?!

Aunt Dee - Yes, yes it would. But, since it's you, it's cute. Shouldn't you be packing?

Everyone - Thank you for the birthday wishes and for telling me how cute they are. Every once in a while, I love hearing that!

Happy birthdays! Very cute pictures. I have a great recipe using devils food cake mix. You just have to add chocolate pudding... and mini chocolate chips. So it starts out devils food and becomes Chocolate Chocolate chip cake, giving you both necessary chocolates. Ryan has named it his favorite.

Mmmmmm cake.

Devil's Food is a good name for something that SHOULD taste like delicious chocolate but doesn't.

My favorite chocolate baked good is dark chocolate fudge brownies. I add in some chocolate syrup or chocolate chips and awwww damnit now I need to go make some.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Summers are birthday times in my house too. Liam's party is Saturday and I'm making dirt cake. Mmmmmm dirt. CHOCOLATE dirt.

Mmmm. We've been having lots of cake around here too! We have 3 august b-days and then D's is sept 3rd! :) I loves me some cake ;)

Hmm....now I'm getting hungry. I'm gonna go make some cake.

Happy birthday to the pumpkins!

They are adorable. Unlike their Aunt D, Aunt Heather will leave them with you and just spoil them ridiculously. Mmmmm... I will have a piece of sympathy celebratory chocolate cake and maybe some of that wine.

Happy birthdays all around (even an early one for the October kiddo). My first party of the season comes up in three weeks. Ugh. Not looking forward to the stress (we have lots of family who live VERY close). Stop by in a few weeks for some whine--or even some wine--at my place.

mmmm... cake... I want cake...

I feel your pain. Okay, well maybe not your exact pain, but that whole not getting everything done and being super tired thing. I'm sorry. I hope that you get your wine (and if you are near a Trader Joe's, pick up some of their truffle cheese...it is AMAZING). Looks like a lot of fun with the cupcakes!! I am fairly certain that I get that same expression on my face when someone puts a pink cupcake in front of me, too!

i only love devil's food cake because we use it in a cupcake recipe that calls for sugar-mixed-with-cream-cheese-and-chocolate-chips that is all melty and gooey in the middle.
not diet friendly.
but SO yummy.
and those kiddos...they are too cute! i need to remember that even cute kiddos can drive a mama crazy...and that is why i should stop wishing for another one.

Dude. Seriously. I am *thisclose* to going and making a cake. Right now. At a quarter to midnight.

Am I a bad woman because I don't like chocolate cake? As in I made it for both Little Miss and my dad earlier this month but ate none of it don't like chocolate cake?

But I do like how each of them has a slightly different cake and cake face -- too cute! And that green bowl/plate is adorable! Where on earth did you find that?

Good luck with the sleep. And wine.

Maria - I forgot to say that the stroller does not fit through regular door ways. It's mammoth and only for outside use really. It's a huge issue for me, if you find my Starbucks post, you'll see that I spend a lot of energy on this problem.

It is seriously cracking me up tonight how much we all love cake. I want another one now. Especially with Erin and Jen writing about their magic chocolate chip cakes of happiness.

Michelle - I'm not going to call you bad, but I am a little suspicious of a woman who doesn't like chocolate cake. What planet were you raised on girl. That little gem is the frog bowl. It has little suction cup feet!! It's from Ikea. I have to put this in all caps:

IKEA IS AWESOME. WHY DON'T WE HAVE AN IKEA HERE?? IKEA GODS PLEASE RECTIFY THIS INJUSTICE. PFUOIC, THE ORDER OF THE UNIVERSE IS AT STAKE.

tz said...

Not only do I buy the double chocolate...I add chocolate chips...then melt white and dark chocolate and pour on top of the cake, instead of frosting...

tz said...

just now reading your comments...I so agree about IKEA and I lament that we also don't have one and was disturbed when I read some state which I did not think had a large population and can't even remember the name of got one before we did...I mean, come on..we're Colorado...we love IKEA out here...

I suddenly have quite a hankering for some chocolate cake. And here I JUST started back at the gym, and was doing so well. Damn. Off to bake a cake now...

Maura said...

Ahhh, cake. I do so loves me some cake. But, let's face it, the cake is just the vehicle for the frosting, so if it has to be Devil's Food, I won't quibble. Double chocolate anything will, of course, trump the inferior devily kind, but still.

I love IKEA too. I now work very close to one, so if there is anything portable you HAVE TO HAVE by the time I leave for AMHer 08 in DC, just let me know.

Or you could, you know, just come visit. :-)

Holy crap Stacey, you've got a lotta love in this comment area, here!

The stroller is cool, though a little intimating. And kids eating cake? Always a winner.

I suggest you get your own cake. And some wine. Actually, after the post about Ess and Gee and their plan to drive you raving mad, I suggest a lot of wine. Or again, the kahlua with milk. Goes GREAT with cake, trust me.

Best wishes, my friend. You're still standing, and believe it or not, that IS a good thing, so well done!

I have to share a fabulous new Texas discovery. Birthday Cake Icecream. Oh yes, chocolate icecream with fudge swirls, chcoclate cake chunks and sprinkles mixed right in. I think I may love my new home

Michelle said...

Seriously, that's an IKEA bowl? Dude, I'm headed there on Tuesday... when I'm off work AND back in town. Let me know if there's anything you need while I'm there, and I'll pick it up. I LOVE the frog bowl (and I know a little boy who just had a birthday who would love it, too!). Thanks!

And yeah I know... very wrong of me to not like chocolate cake, BUT I do like my molten chocolate cake. And I just had a brainstorm of starting it out with a chocolate chip cookie so there's a warm fresh chocolate chip cookie on top of the molten cake when you turn it out. I need to investigate the feasibility of this, but does that earn me some points back? :)

I'm with you. The only food I want deviled is eggs. Any cake other than chocolate is not cake, is packing for shipping stereo equipment.

So I went to IKEA (who knew there was one across the street from the Mall of America now?) on Saturday while killing time waiting to go to my friend's house. And they no longer sell said froggy bowl. They discontinued it. But they do now have something similar in red, white, pink and black. Without asking (or knowing it's sort of what I was looking for), Little Miss grabbed a pink set and told me that's what she was going home with. Apparently it was meant to be.
